Energy sector

Central Bohemia is a leader in research, development and innovation, driving the energy industry forward and providing solutions to both national and global challenges. Exceptional know-how is concentrated mainly in Řež near Prague and in the University Centre for Energy Efficient Buildings (UCEEB CUT) in Buštěhrad.

UCEEB CTU excels in energy innovation for buildings and cities, assisting architects, developers and communities to implement energy-efficient technologies and design sustainable solutions. Thanks to its revolutionary S.A.W.E.R. technology, which can extract water from hot air, UCEEB has the potential to transform arid deserts into thriving green oases. Central Bohemia shows that innovation and sustainability go hand in hand.

The Řež Nuclear Research Institute (ÚJV Řež) plays a key role in ensuring the safety and efficient operation of nuclear power plants in Czechia and abroad. The Research Centre Řež is developing advanced technologies for fourth-generation reactors, including a breakthrough patent for a small modular reactor that can provide a clean energy source for cities and industries.

S.A.W.E.R., an autonomous desert cultivation system, can produce up to 100 litres of water per day from air.

ÚJV Řež processes more than 90% of the radioactive waste produced by institutions in Czechia.

The modular reactors developed by Research Centre Řež could power Czech cities for up to 15 years without refuelling.
