Biotech and biomedicine

Central Bohemia is a key driver of biotechnological and biomedical research in Czechia.

Thanks to the collaboration of top research institutions and high-tech companies, innovations created here are changing the world, addressing serious diseases and improving the quality of human life. A prime example of this synergy is the BIOCEV Biotechnology and Biomedical Centre, a European centre of excellence focusing on applied research and the development of new therapies. Its breakthrough projects include a promising drug to treat the most aggressive forms of breast cancer and a new generation of antibiotics, which BIOCEV is developing with the Central Bohemian start-up SigutLabs.

Central Bohemia is also home to DIANA Biotechnologies, a spin-off company which became one of the largest Czech producers of PCR tests during the Covid-19 pandemic. Other pioneering healthcare innovations are being developed at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague and biotech start-ups are also thriving in the InnoCrystal science and technology park.
